Behind the Scenes: From First Consult to Final Installation

Behind the Scenes: From First Consult to Final Installation

Interior design can look effortless in a finished photograph, but a great deal happens between the first phone call and the final styling touch. Here's what that journey looks like at our studio.

1. The discovery consult

Every project begins with a conversation, not a sketch. We visit the space, listen to how a family or organisation actually uses it, and ask questions most people don't expect — about morning routines, entertaining habits, and what's frustrated them about the space so far.

2. Concept and space planning

Next, we develop a spatial plan and mood direction — layout options, material palettes, and reference imagery that capture the intended feeling of the space. This is where the vision starts to become tangible, before any money is committed to furniture or finishes.

3. Detailed design and sourcing

Once the direction is approved, we move into the detail: furniture selection, custom joinery drawings, lighting plans, and fabric and finish sourcing. Much of this stage happens with local artisans and suppliers we've worked with for years, which keeps quality consistent and timelines realistic.

4. Procurement and production

With designs finalised, we manage procurement and track production — whether that's custom-built cabinetry, upholstered furniture, or imported fixtures. This is often the longest phase, and one where clear communication about timelines matters most.

5. Installation day

This is the moment everything comes together. Our team manages delivery, placement, and styling on-site, handling the details — cushion arrangement, art hanging, final adjustments — so that what a client sees is the finished picture, not a work in progress.

6. The follow-up

A project isn't complete when the last item is placed. We check back in with clients weeks later to make sure the space is working as intended in real life, not just in the photographs.

It's a longer road than most people expect, but it's exactly why the result feels intentional in every corner — nothing about it happened by accident.
